The Book Expo America (BEA) is underway at the Javits Center with book industry professionals and readers flocking from all around the world for the biggest book fair in the US. Writers and publishers have already taken to innovative ways to promote their books, like setting up a food truck or making a cardboard robot etc., that are aligned with the themes of their books.

Tagged as the biggest fair in the US, the book expo has a comparatively brief schedule but with elaborate activities. Beginning with the CIROBE or The Chicago International Remainder and Overstock Book Exposition on June 4, the first day also covers conferences and special events while the Digital Book Conference is scheduled for June 5. The last three days ending on June 7 also include exhibits, conferences, special events, BlogWorld and New Media Expo.

The flagship event of the North American Publishing Industry, the annual show is put up together by the American Book Sellers Association (ABA), Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the Association of Author Representatives (AAR). If 2011 attendee metrics are any indicator of the scale of the expo, then here it is: the attendees were from 45 states and 59 countries with 11, 842 people in attendance for the co located events and the exhibit hall. The attendees included librarians, educators, museum stores, licensing, film and TV production and literary agents.

This year the organizers have something special for the avid books lovers; for on June 7, book enthusiasts get to meet their favorite authors and find out about their upcoming books before they hit the stands. Called the BEA Power Readers , book lovers receive lots of giveaways from exhibitors, get autographs and also meet with other passionate readers. For a registration of only $45, they also get a free swag bag filled with lots of goodies books, key chains and a Janet Evanovich magnet.
