I’m no different than any of you, my fellow writers. I too fantasized about that magical email dropping into my Inbox the one from The Agent who had sold my manuscript to a top-notch publishing house just moments ago for a seven-figure advance.

The email never arrived.

I had two options: 1) Rename myself Loser 2) Show the world what self-belief looked like.

I chose the latter. I chose to self-publish. And in choosing to self-publish, I chose myself.

The most important wisdom lesson that’s come my way is this: Don’t wait for others to applaud you, and don’t base your self-belief on what the world thinks of you. If you don’t believe in you, it’s kind of silly to expect others to.

I believe in my writing because I believe in the messages that I’m called to share. And that’s all you and I as writers need.

Once I took ownership of my value, self-publishing was an easy route to take. My debut eBook Understanding Death: 10 Ways to Inner Peace for the Grieving flowed out of my personal experience as a daughter, coach, hospice volunteer and companion to the elderly. Too many people are hurting. Loss is the central theme in many lives loss of homes, jobs, dreams and loved ones. I had the opportunity to turn my personal loss and pain my mother’s passing in 2009 into healing and comfort for fellow mourners.

When we show up for ourselves, we give the Universe a chance to conspire in our favor.

Understanding Death: 10 Ways to Inner Peace for the Grieving is a book I wrote as much for me as those who are stricken by loss. When my mother passed away, I found myself in a vacuum of emptiness and agony. Questions burned in my brain. Why must we struggle through life if we’re eventually going to die? What is death? Is there more to life than I see?

I devoured literature about the afterlife, my appetite raging. I morphed into a spiritual workshop junkie. I studied and debated and dissected the meaning and purpose of life, and death. I trained to become a hospice volunteer and continue to serve as one. I counseled bereaved family members.

All of this gave me a deep and rich understanding of the frightening spectacle we call death.

Self-publishing was a validating experience. I was the writer, editor, proofreader, publisher and marketer all in one. It meant taking charge of my writing destiny.

Social media, which makes all of this possible, is an exciting game where the rules are constantly changing. With able guidance from Team ebooks2go I am on a journey that unfolds one vista at a time. I continue to grow and learn every single day. Having birthed the book, I’m like a new mom who is receiving on-the-job training in all the skills she needs to raise that baby to his full potential.

I know the Universe is on my side. I also know that my intention is sacred. With those two forces, there’s no way I can go wrong.

My advice to fellow writers: Don’t waste time waiting for others to recognize you. Vote for yourself by choosing to self-publish. If you have a powerful message that needs to be shared, the time is now. Give it your best shot. Make sure your product is of the highest quality.

Sit back and watch the Universe go to work for you.
